The government of Bangladesh is planning to construct a new 231.9 km railway line, the Dhaka-Chittagong Express Railway, which will shorten the distance between the two cities by 90 km and reduce travel time by three to four hours. The project will cost $4 billion and take five years to complete. The China Railway Engineering Group has helped with the feasibility study, and 10 new stations will be built along the route. Additionally, other railway projects are underway in the country, including the conversion of the existing single line railway to double line and the construction of a new rail line connecting Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum.
