The government of Bangladesh is planning to construct a new 231.9 km railway line, the Dhaka-Chittagong Express Railway, which will shorten the distance between the two cities by 90 km and reduce travel time by three to four hours. The project will cost $4 billion and take five years to complete. The China Railway Engineering Group has helped with the feasibility study, and 10 new stations will be built along the route. Additionally, other railway projects are underway in the country, including the conversion of the existing single line railway to double line and the construction of a new rail line connecting Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum.

The Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport Project is a 20 km long Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Gazipur. The project includes a dedicated bus lane, reconstruction of a bridge, construction of flyovers, a bus depot, and 25 stations. The project will cost $255 million and is expected to be completed within the next 30 months. The BRT Route-3 will be extended up to Keraniganj, and the World Bank has offered a $250 million loan for the construction of the Airport-Mohakhali phase of BRT-3.
